Also I work in a small rural hospital in the Emergency room where we utilize telemedicine for burns, stroke, and traumas. We do have OB, Nursery, ICU, Med surgical and Teley floor, however we transfer most patients due to the lack of specialty medical and physicians. Our problems are lack of leadership in our department. No one defends or stands up for the nurses in the ER. Now administration has cut nurses hours without looking at the acuity of the patient that enter into the ER put more stress on the few nurses present. When we activate a code help our manager never comes in and the already stressed out nurses are now having to call people to come in to help instead of focusing on patient care. Due to being a small rural hospital the nurses are they secretary, transfer coordinator, housekeeping and transporter as well as attempting to care for our patients.
