This is only a discussion. Our style of leadership is laissez-faire and authoritative. Authoritative by the CFO and CNO. Laissez-faire as far as department managers. Laissez-faire mainly due to the nurses being there for so many years and know what the patient wants and needs. This style of leadership actually keeps our HCAPS at a very good level. The CFO and CNO are over those mangers and hold them responsible for each department. I work in a small rural ER and have been there for 15 years. 4 other nurses have been in the ER for 20 + years. Our ER employ’s only 10 full-time nurses and only 2 PRN nurses. Our manager believes the nurses in the ER know how to take charge and make the patient feel valued and give excellent care. We are the patient’s voice, therefore when the patient is not happy with care provided from the ER physician; the nurse speaks up and make suggestions for improvement. Our ER physician respects the nurses input and we work as a team to make sure the patient has the best outcome. I will not be uploading chapter 2 since the focus is on authoritative and Laissez-faire and there is not a lot of information in this chapter. By Day 3 Post a description of a leader, distinguishing his or her style as authoritative, democratic, or laissez-faire. Describe the characteristics that inform your perception, and explain which ones you would integrate into your own leadership style, as well as which ones you would prefer not to integrate.
